Four children drown on the North Shore

A fishing trip turned tragic in Portneuf-sur-Mer, on the North Shore, where the bodies of four children were discovered around 2 a.m. on the night of Friday to Saturday.

“According to the first information, a group of people were fishing on the edge of the sea on foot when they got caught by the tide. Six people managed to be rescued in time while five people were missing,” explained Sergeant Catherine Bernard, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

“Four young children were found very early this morning lifeless on the edge of the bank and a man in his thirties is still missing,” said Sergeant Bernard.

Searches are underway in the area to find him.

Divers from the SQ, as well as members of the Canadian Forces were called in as reinforcements as part of this search.

The identity of the victims was not immediately revealed, but they are people who know each other.

An SQ investigation is underway.
