Among the nominees is Heather Phillipson, familiar to the public for his sculpture of a giant cherry overlooking a mound of whipped cream, a fly and a drone which was enthroned until March in Trafalgar Square, in the center of London.

Others named are British photographer Ingrid Pollard, sculptor Veronica Ryan and non-binary artist Sin Wai Kin.

“With many museums and galleries opening their doors again in May 2021, the last 12 months have been great for British contemporary art, as this rich and varied selection for the Turner Prize shows,” said the director. of Tate Britain and Co-Chair of the Alex Farquharson Prize.

For the first time since 2007, the four artists will be exhibited at Tate Liverpool between October 20 and March 19, 2023. It is in this city in the north of England that the prestigious prize will be awarded in December.

Last year, the Northern Irish artist collective Array Collective, whose works are intended to echo the problems of Northern Ireland, won the prize.

Created in 1984, the Turner Prize, named in tribute to the painter William Turner, is renowned for its non-conformism and familiarity with controversy.
