Towards a return earlier than expected? The forwards coach of the XV of France William Servat did not “no doubt about Antoine Dupont’s ability to play the quarter-final” of the 2023 World Cup, on October 14 or 15, he assured Tuesday September 26 at a press conference. The Blues, at the top of Group A, are in a favorable position to qualify for the quarters, before their last match against Italy, on October 6 in Lyon.
The captain and scrum half of the Blues, operated on Friday for a maxillo-zygomatic fracture after an injury against Namibia (96-0), will be “back for Sunday training”, explained Servat again. The best player in the world 2021, star of French rugby, left in the 46th minute of the easily won match against Namibia on Thursday in Marseille (96-0), after being hit violently on the head by Namibian center and captain Johan Deysel .
Dupont back in training on Sunday
He was operated on Friday in Toulouse and is having a few days of rest before returning to the XV of France. “Antoine is doing very well today. The operation went very well, he is resting. He will be back for training on Sunday. Friday and Saturday are rest days for us, he will have time to come back in this time frame”estimated Servat. “I have no doubt about his ability to play in the quarter-final. He will be reasonable”added the former international hooker (49 caps between 2004 and 2012).
