Fort Boyard in Charente-Maritime needs a makeover. Work will begin soon. In four years, visitors may finally be able to go inside.
It looks solid, planted in the middle of the Atlantic. However, Fort Boyard is very tired, so much so that it must be saved. That day, engineers and elected officials carry out a major inspection, you must not be afraid of heights. The inspection begins. Each day that passes shows a new fragility. We notice that the building is threatened. In several places of the Fort, cracks appear.
Boxes hung on the wall measure their progress day by day. If the fort is weakening, it is because its external protections have gradually disintegrated. The high tide reveals what is left of it, it is the ideal moment to make a precise assessment of the damage. When it was built, it was protected at the front and back. Everything will be rebuilt identically from next summer. The structures will be prefabricated before being installed on site at the last moment.
