Formula 1 | “Montreal is ready,” assures Valérie Plante

The issues of cleanliness, road obstructions and homelessness have made headlines in recent months, but Montreal is “absolutely” ready to welcome Formula 1 fans, Valérie Plante said Thursday.

The mayor of Montreal was delighted to see thousands of visitors arriving in Montreal these days, while the Canadian Grand Prix will take place on Sunday on the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit.

“Montreal is ready, absolutely. But that does not mean that certain concerns and certain distresses do not exist,” said M.me Plante, on the sidelines of a press briefing. In terms of construction, “the City is still struggling with construction sites because some of the infrastructure is old.”

“I want to be very frank: we know that there are issues – in terms of vulnerabilities among other things – in certain areas, but what I can tell you is that I am very proud of the work that has been done by all the teams,” she continued. “We can feel the frenzy of Formula 1, people are happy, the terraces are full. »

For the mayor, Formula 1 also marks “the start of the summer season with its festivals” in the streets of Montreal.

“It would be a great event, a great weekend. I hope the weather will be on our side,” she said.
