Formula 1: “Lance and Fernando are getting the best out of the car at the moment”

The last two performances of Lance Stroll and the Aston Martin team allow them to believe more than ever in fourth place in the constructors’ standings.

Thanks to a podium finish for Fernando Alonso in Brazil and two consecutive fifth places for the Quebec driver at the Autodromo José Carlos Pace and on the Las Vegas Strip, the British team is hanging on.

Aston Martin scored 273 points, 11 fewer than McLaren with only one event remaining: the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

“We can only focus on ourselves and do the best job possible. I believe we have proven with the last two races that we should not be worried by the challenge posed by the Yas Marina circuit. It’s a track that could suit some of our competitors, but we have proven that we can also compete,” explained the team’s technical director, Dan Fallows, Thursday on their website.

A continuity

The second half of the season was rather difficult for Stroll, but since the Belgian Grand Prix on July 30, the 25-year-old Montrealer has placed in the top 10 four times in six races. According to his team, he has proven beyond any doubt that he deserves a steering wheel in 2024.

“Its very important for us. Lance and Fernando are getting the best out of the car at the moment and that’s what we want to continue to do,” said Fallows, for whom continuity is an essential aspect.

“They were instrumental in helping us understand where we misstepped mid-season and how we came back. Their feedback helped us identify where the car was good, where it was weak and how it can be improved,” recalled the technical director.

Thus, the interpretations of Stroll and Alonso also gave the engineers the opportunity to work on the single-seater for the 2024 season. Aston Martin made a giant leap in the constructors’ standings this year, with 218 points more than in 2022 , and all hopes are allowed for the future.

“We’ve done a lot of work on next year’s car,” Fallows revealed. We have already released some of the main components for production and are putting the finishing touches on the aerodynamic parts for launch.”

The Abu Dhabi GP will take place on Sunday at the Yas Marina circuit.
