(Paris) The Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix will take place at Suzuka at least until 2029 inclusive, the organizers of the World Championship announced on Friday.
The contract which binds F1 to the legendary Japanese circuit, one of the drivers’ favorites, has in fact been extended by five years, although it was due to expire in 2024.
For the first time in its history, the Japanese Grand Prix, contested at Suzuka since 1987 (except in 2007 and 2008 when it took place on the Mount Fuji Circuit), will be contested in spring and no longer in autumn.
The FIA has in fact decided to harmonize the calendar of the Formula 1 World Championship to reduce its carbon footprint and the Japanese round, the fourth of the season, will therefore be organized at the beginning of April, between the Australian and Chinese Grands Prix. .
In 2023, 222,000 spectators went to Suzuka during the Grand Prix weekend, an increase of 10% compared to 2022, when the circuit returned to the calendar after two editions canceled due to the pandemic of COVID-19.
