(Paris) Briton Ted Toleman, boss of the former Toleman Formula 1 team where Brazilian legend Ayrton Senna started, has died at the age of 86, the promoter of F1 Formula One announced on Thursday.
The team, present in the paddocks from 1981 to 1985, revealed Senna in F1, when he finished second in the Monaco Grand Prix, in the rain, for his first season in the elite in 1984, offering in the process his best result in F1 for the team.
That year, Toleman took two more podiums with the Brazilian, in Great Britain and Portugal.
The team was subsequently sold to the Italian clothing brand Benetton, which competed in the championship from 1986 to 2001, winning two drivers’ titles in 1994 and 1995 for another future legend, Michael Schumacher, and the manufacturer title in 1995. Benetton was then bought by Renault, which currently races under the colors of Alpine in F1.
