The former world number will return to competition 16 months after her last match on the WTA circuit, during which she notably gave birth to her first child.

The contingent of mothers on the WTA circuit will welcome one more returnee. After Victoria Azarenka or Elina Svitolina, Naomi Osaka will make her return to competition after giving birth to her first child. The Japanese, former world number one, announced on Friday November 10 that she would play the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane from December 31 to January 7.

She has not been seen on the courts since September 2022, after an Achilles tendon injury. The player had, in previous months, struggled with her mental health, suffering from anxiety and depressive phases which she had publicly expressed. The winner of four Grand Slam tournaments then gave birth to a daughter last July.
