Unai Emery is back in England. The former coach of Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Villarreal has signed on as the new coach of Aston Villa, the Birmingham club announced on Monday October 24. In great difficulty in the Premier League, the Villains had sacked the former glory of Liverpool, Steven Gerrard, last Friday, the day after a stinging setback at Fulham (3-0). Aston Villa is in 14th place in the championship, after giving itself some air on Sunday against Brentford (4-0).

For Emery, this new challenge will be very different from the one he has experienced in recent seasons. The Basque was still playing in the semi-finals of the Champions League last season with Villarreal, eliminated by Liverpool. The Spanish technician therefore leaves the “Yellow Submarine” in full exercise, when the club is in 7th place.
He will officially take office on November 1, after moving to Newcastle on Saturday. In his workforce, he can count on two international tricolors, Lucas Digne and Boubacar Kamara, and on two other French players, Morgan Sanson and Frédéric Guilbert.
In 2021, the coach had won his fourth Europa League, with Villarreal, after his hat-trick at the head of Sevilla FC in 2014, 2015, and 2016. At Aston Villa, Emery finds an ambitious training, returned to the elite in 2019 with the idea of rediscovering the glory of the 1990s.
