Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is in a “very serious condition” after being attacked by firearm, Friday, July 8, during a political event in the Nara region (west), announced the current Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida. The former chief executive was delivering a campaign speech at a political event ahead of Sunday’s senatorial elections when gunshots were heard, national broadcaster NHK and Kyodo news agency reported. . He was taken to hospital in a “state unknown”according to the authorities.

“It is a barbaric act in the middle of the electoral campaign, which is the basis of democracy, and it is absolutely unforgivable”added Fumio Kishida, saying he prayed for the survival of his former political mentor and of whom he had been foreign minister from 2012 to 2017.
