Elisabeth Borne wants to return to the forefront. The former Prime Minister announced in an interview with Parisian published Wednesday August 21, his candidacy at the head of Renaissance, Emmanuel Macron’s party, with the ambition of “to gather in a very broad way” because he is “vital” of “to preserve the unity of this party”.
“With this Assembly, no one is going to implement their program. This political instability gives a different role to political parties: we need them to give hope to the French, to develop a vision, a project for the country. I want to put my experience at the service of this work, with humility and a lot of collegiality.”she further explained.
Renaissance, which is due to hold a congress before the end of November, “is not intended to be a chapel or a presidential stable”reports the Calvados MP, while Gabriel Attal, elected to the presidency of the group in the Assembly, could also aim to seize the leadership of the party. But “Traditionally, it is not customary to be group president at the same time as leading the party”believes the former head of government.
So far, Gabriel Attal has not revealed his intentions. But the accumulation of these two functions, “nothing prevents it”he recently slipped privately. The future of Renaissance, the weak link in the presidential system since 2017, is a major issue for the Macronist camp, while Emmanuel Macron will not be able to run again in 2027.
