Former MLB pitcher arrested for murder

Former professional baseball player Danny Serafini and a 33-year-old woman, Samantha Scott, were arrested Friday for the 2021 murder of a 70-year-old man, Robert Gary Spohr, and the attempted murder of another wife, Wendy Wood Spohr.

Mr. Serafini, who played for the Minnesota Twins and five other teams during his 12-season career in major league baseball that ended in 2007, was arrested by authorities in Winnemucca, Nevada, reports CNN .

The former professional athlete was the victim’s stepson according to the Placer Sheriff’s Office.

Ms. Scott, the other person who was arrested, is also believed to know the family, possibly being their babysitter.

Placer County police found Robert Gary Spohr dead with gunshot wounds at a residence in California near the Nevada border on June 5, 2021.

His wife, Wendy Wood Spohr, was also shot before being taken to hospital, where her condition stabilized.

These two arrests come following a lengthy two-year investigation, Placer County police said in a statement.

Mr. Serafini and Ms. Scott both face murder and attempted murder charges.
