Former LREM MP Laetitia Avia is to be tried on May 9, 2023 by the Paris Criminal Court for moral harassment of parliamentary assistants, the prosecution announced on Monday July 25, confirming information from Mediapart (paid item). An investigation was opened in July 2020 after several complaints from former collaborators of this spokesperson for the presidential party.
Five former parliamentary assistants had accused the former deputy for Paris of subjecting her collaborators to humiliation, harassment and abuse of power, in an article by Mediapart (paid item) in May 2020. They also denounced his mockery of the physique or the dress of activists or an elected official. These testimonies also evoked sexist, racist or homophobic comments that Laetitia Avia would have made in exchanges with her team.
The ex-elected, beaten in the last legislative elections, denounced “false accusations” and an “handling” and filed a defamation suit against the journalist who wrote the article. According to her, none of her former collaborators “never complained of harassment”. “Almost all approached me after their departure, to ask me for advice, recommendations or simply to give me their news”she had defended herself at the time on Twitter.
