Former hitting champion Tim Anderson joins Marlins

(Miami) Former American League hitting champion Tim Anderson has accepted a one-year contract offer from the Miami Marlins, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Thursday.

This pact with the shortstop would, however, be conditional on a medical examination, said this person, who requested anonymity since the agreement has still not been confirmed. It would be worth 5 million US dollars, according to the ESPN network.

Anderson is the Marlins’ first major acquisition on the free agent market this winter. The American became a free agent in November, after the Chicago White Sox bought out the 14 million year option provided for in his contract, thus ending a six-year agreement worth 25 million .

The 30-year-old veteran spent his eight seasons in the Major Leagues with the White Sox. After leading the major leagues with a .355 batting average in 2019, Anderson hit .245 last season. It was the second worst average of his career, after .240 in 2018.

Anderson had just one home run and 25 RBIs in 123 games with the White Sox last season. His RBI total matched his 2022 RBI total, which he had in just 79 games due to various injuries. He was slowed by a left knee strain and right shoulder soreness last season.
