The Benjamin Mendy affair continues to gain momentum. As the Manchester City player was brought to court on Wednesday 22 December, Chester Crown Court revealed the player was facing a seventh rape charge.

The judge also announced a change in the date of the trial, originally scheduled for January 24, with the defense and prosecution needing time to study the case. The trial won’t take place until June 27, 2022, at best. In the meantime, a new hearing is scheduled for January 7, where the issue of bail can be considered.

The 27-year-old defender was already charged with six rapes and one sexual assault. Incarcerated since the end of August at Altcourse prison, he had made several requests for parole which were all refused. He was last heard by justice on Thursday 18 November.
