“After so many years of passion, challenges and unforgettable memories, it is time for me to turn the page!” It is with these words, posted on her social networks, that Amandine Henry announced that she would no longer wear the colors of the France team, Sunday October 13. The ex-captain’s selection counter (2014-2020) will remain stuck at 109 (including 92 matches as a starter) and his last memory will remain the cruel elimination in the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympic tournament this summer, against Brazil (0-1).
The announcement of his international retirement comes almost four months after the announcement of his departure for Mexican club Toluca. In the meantime, Laurent Bonadei took over from Hervé Renard at the head of the French team. During his official presentation, the new coach warned that “no one was essential”preparing some experienced players with special status for possible disappointment.
Amandine Henry will not have had to wait for the first list of the Bonadei era. It is therefore without the seven-time winner of the Champions League (and also 14 times champion of France) that the Bleues will play two friendly matches at the end of October, against Jamaica (on the 25th in Sochaux), then against Switzerland (on the 29th in Geneva). His heavy strike, his vision of the game and his slaughter in midfield risk leaving a gap.
