(Paris) The 2009 F1 world champion Jenson Button will be entered for the entire world auto endurance championship (FIA WEC) within the Hertz Team JOTA team, Hypercar category, his team announced on Friday.
The Briton will share the wheel of the No. 38 Porsche 963 with his compatriot Phil Hanson and Dane Oliver Rasmussen.
“My teammates Oliver Rasmussen and Phil Hanson have a wealth of motor racing experience. This is a key element, because teamwork is at the heart of endurance racing,” rejoices Jenson Button in the text of the press release.
In 2024, the young Hypercar category (created in 2021) which has become a WEC showcase will reach a record number of 19 teams entered, with nine different manufacturers: Alpine, BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, Isotta Fraschini, Lamborghini, Peugeot, Porsche and Toyota.
Jenson Button is making his return to endurance after defending the colors of SMP Racing during the LMP2 era, during the 2018/2019 season. He notably finished 3e of the 6 hours of Shanghai.
More recently, the ex-F1 driver got acquainted with his future machine, the Porsche 963, during the closing round of IMSA in Atlanta (the Petit Le Mans), under the colors of JDC-Miller MotorSports.
