Former CF Montreal coach Wilfried Nancy suspended

Columbus Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy has been suspended for two games by Major League Soccer (MLS) for behavior deemed “irresponsible”.

This was announced by the Garber circuit on Tuesday.

The actions alleged against the former CF Montreal pilot occurred in the 87th minute of last Saturday’s game against New York City FC. The 46-year-old man was also fined, the amount of which was not disclosed.

Nancy was shown a red card after entering the pitch to complain about a foul which the referee did not penalise.

MLS explained that Nancy “did not leave the field in a timely and orderly manner”.

The head coach will therefore have to watch his team’s clashes against the Portland Timbers (July 15) and Cincinnati FC (August 20) from a distance.

Crew technical staff member Federico Pizzuto was also suspended three games for throwing liquid at a referee in the 88th minute of the same match.

Nancy is in her first season at the helm of the Columbus club, having spent 12 years with the Montreal organization, including her last two years as head coach.
