(Flowery Branch) The Atlanta Falcons released wide receiver Austin Mack on Monday, whose Canadian Football League (CFL) rights belong to the Montreal Alouettes through the end of the 2024 season.
After a strong first season in Canada with the Sparrows in 2023, Mack turned his attention to the NFL when he signed with the Falcons in January.
He appeared in seven plays in the Falcons’ preseason game Friday against the Miami Dolphins, but was unable to catch the only pass thrown his way.
The 26-year-old American played 11 games with the New York Giants in 2020, including one as a starter. He made seven catches for 91 yards. Before moving to Montreal, he also tried his luck with the Tennessee Titans and the 49ers from San Francisco, without success.
With the Alouettes last year, Mack caught 78 passes for 1,154 yards and four touchdowns. He added 13 receptions for 185 yards and two majors in the playoffs, helping the team win the Grey Cup.
If he decides to return to Canada, Mack will certainly help the Alouettes’ offensive unit, while the names of receivers Kaion Julien-Grant and Tyler Snead are on the injured list.
The Montreal team has still not given details on the health of Tyson Philpot, who left the game in the first quarter against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Saturday at Percival-Molson Stadium. Philpot is currently second in the CFL with 779 passing yards.
