Former Alouettes coach Dave Ritchie has died

Former Concordes and Montreal Alouettes coach Dave Ritchie has died. He was 85 years old.

Ritchie first coached defensive backs with the Concordes from 1983 to 1987. He then served as head coach of the Alouettes in 1997 and 1998.

The former pilot also worked for the British Columbia Lions and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He also won the Gray Cup at the head of the Lions in 1994. He added two more as an assistant, in 1990 and 2006

Ritchie was named CFL Coach of the Year in 2001. He led the Bombers to a 14-4 record that year, good for first place in the East. The Bombers lost in the Gray Cup final to the Calgary Stampeders.

He retired with 108 career victories, placing him seventh all-time among CFL coaches.

Ritchie was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2022.
