Forgotten by the Ségur de la Santé, social workers march for better salaries

“Great job, very poor salary.” Thousands of employees in the social sector, in the service of children at risk or disabled or vulnerable people, marched Tuesday, December 7 in France to ask for salary increases and better working conditions.

The demonstrators responded to the call of an inter-union CGT-FSU-SUD-CNT, which demands an increase of “300 euros minimum for all”. They were in particular 8,000 in Paris according to the organizers, 1,600 to 2,500 in Rennes, according to the prefecture and the unions, as well as 2,300 in Lille, 1,500 in Lyon, 1,000 in Grenoble, 300 in Reims, according to the prefectures. .

“Red alert on social action and medico-social”, “insecurity is not a job”, “we do social work, not volunteering”, proclaimed the banners. The angry employees – many of whom are specialized educators or social workers – intended in particular to protest against the fact that they did not benefit from the upgrades granted to caregivers and other employees in the medico-social sector within the framework of of the “Ségur” of Health.

“The promises of Ségur, they have been kept, but not for all trades”, lamented Marc Bregent, 50, crossed in the procession in Rennes. “The physiotherapists have had them but not the specialized educators, nor the educators of young children or the psychological aids”, added this educator, wearing a Santa hat.

“We’re fed up, we’re fed up. We feel totally excluded, not considered”, was indignant for his part Samy Ben Amor, monitor-educator in a home for disabled adults in Sartrouville (Yvelines), met in the Parisian parade.
