(Montreal) More than 10 million hectares have burned this year in Canada, a figure well above anything the country has ever seen and which will continue to increase in the coming weeks, according to government data released on Saturday .
The previous absolute record in terms of burned areas dates back to 1989 with 7.3 million hectares, according to national figures from the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center (CIFFC). In total, there have been 4,088 forest fires in the country since January, and on Saturday 906 fires were still active, including 570 considered out of control.
