Foreign interference: the RCMP opens an investigation

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has opened an investigation into the leaks of alleged foreign interference.

The RCMP confirmed on Monday that they have initiated an investigation into possible breaches of the Security of Information Act following several media reports.

“This investigation does not focus on any particular security agency,” the RCMP said in an email sent to the QMI Agency.

Recall that recently, “The Globe & Mail” said it had got hold of confidential documents confirming deliberate interference by China to counter the Conservatives in the 2021 federal election.

As an investigation is ongoing, the RCMP said they would not comment further on the matter. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is due to make a press briefing on the matter on Monday afternoon.
