Foreign interference | Summaries of Trudeau cabinet documents leaked

(Ottawa) The Liberal government has agreed to the public release of summaries of documents from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office regarding foreign interference.

Four memoranda, generally considered confidential documents, were provided to the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference as part of its mandate.

In a statement released Monday, the commission said that following extensive discussions, the government agreed to make public the summaries of these memorandums, which will be presented as evidence during the current hearings.

The memorandums in question had previously been provided to David Johnston, who looked into foreign interference last year as the government’s special rapporteur.

Ottawa also twice expanded the commission’s access to cabinet secrets.

Commissioner Marie-Josée Hogue said the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference has been granted extraordinary access to classified documents and confidential cabinet information.
