(Ottawa) Current and former federal MPs who have been identified as potential victims of foreign interference will testify Wednesday before the public inquiry examining the issue.
Former Conservative leader Erin O’Toole, Conservative MP Michael Chong and NDP MP Jenny Kwan are the witnesses expected to testify Wednesday.
All three have been identified as potential targets of Chinese interference techniques.
In its current phase, the commission of inquiry is examining the capacity of federal institutional structures, agencies and ministries to detect, prevent and counter foreign interference.
The hearings, which are scheduled to continue until October 16, are quite broad in scope, as they aim to examine democratic institutions and the experiences of diaspora communities.
Starting October 21, the commission will hold a week of policy consultations, including a series of expert roundtables, to help it draft its recommendations.
The final report of the commission headed by Judge Marie-Josée Hogue is expected by the end of the year.
