Forecast for 2024: These jobs could have a bigger salary increase

Quebec workers should receive an average salary increase of 3.7% in 2024, but some could benefit from a much more attractive increase than others, according to the update from the Order of Certified Human Resources Advisors.

“The increase forecast for 2024 remains very high compared to historical normals. Even the sectors of activity which are at the bottom of the ranking plan to offer increases this year which should make it possible to preserve the purchasing power of their workers,” commented Manon Poirier, CRHA, general director of the Order.

As announced in September, this forecast remains higher than those of the last fifteen years and remains in line with the 3.5% granted in 2023.

However, certain trades could have a higher than average increase. This is particularly the case in the primary and resources sector, i.e. agriculture, forestry, fishing, energy, mining, oil and gas, and the professional services sector. , scientific and technical with a forecast of + 4.1%.

After a 5.2% jump last year, the information and communications technology sector will see a smaller increase, as will workers in wholesale and retail trade, transportation and warehousing.

At the bottom of the pack in recent years, public administration employees are expected to see projected increases of 3.9%.

“The public sector is in catch-up mode. Even if the overall remuneration remained generous, particularly because of the retirement plans, sooner or later salaries had to be increased to preserve the attractiveness of the public sector as an employer,” commented Ms. Poirier.
