Ford recalls 93,000 Explorers

(Toronto) Ford announces that a recall of its Explorer sport utility vehicles will affect 93,000 Canadians.

The automaker is recalling 2011-2019 Explorer SUV models due to an issue with a trim piece, which can fly off and create a hazard to other drivers.

Globally, automaker recalls 2.24 million vehicles after U.S. National Highway Traffic Administration report showed window pillar trim could detach and fly away .

Ford says a customer can visually detect gaps around a trim and detect vibration and wind noise coming from the area, which is near the sides of the front windshield.

Although the problem is expected to affect 5% of vehicles recalled in the United States, Ford Canada says it does not yet know how many vehicles recalled north of the border could have this problem.

The company said in documents that it was aware of 568 consumer complaints and more than 14,000 warranty reports alleging missing or loose parts. However, she is not aware of any accidents or injuries resulting from this problem.
