Ford | Preparation behind the scenes of the electric versions of the Maverick and Ranger

The big boss of Ford, Jim Farley, announced last April during the launch of the electric version of the F-150 that a second electric van was in preparation. He obviously hasn’t detailed that claim since, but the automaker’s recent trademark registration in the US and Europe indicates that two pickups could be in the works.

The CarBuzz website has tracked down the registration of the Maverick Lightning and Ranger Lightning names with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Note that the electric version of the F-150 is called Lightning. In the United States, Ford also registered the names Maverick Thunder and Ranger Thunder, according to Electrek.co.

This obviously suggests that electric versions of the Maverick and Ranger pickups are in development, which could make electrification even more accessible for pickup truck owners. It goes without saying that it is still too early to speculate on the form that these newcomers will take, but if we believe the extraordinary interest in the F-150 Lightning, Ford could be tempted to accelerate their launch.
