Ford is recalling 23,000 Mustangs in Canada

As it did for just over 330,000 units in the United States, Ford is forced to recall 23,269 Mustangs from the years 2015 to 2017 in Canada due to a problem with the rear view camera.

In some cases, opening and closing the trunk lid can damage the wires that connect the camera to the on-board display. Also, the connections inside the camera could be faulty.

The consequence, as you’d expect, is that the rear view camera image may not display correctly, if at all, when the car is placed in reverse. Canadian owners of these Mustangs will soon receive a notice from Ford directing them to visit a dealer to have the trunk lid wiring inspected and repaired. The rear view camera may also need to be replaced.

Another recall announced around the same date alleges a possible welding problem with the front passenger’s knee airbag, which may not inflate properly in a crash. However, barely 10 Mustang of the year 2021 are targeted in Canada.

Moreover, although the list of recalls for the current generation of the Ford Mustang is quite long, it is important to specify that these generally concern only a small number of cars. You can check if yours is one of them using the Vehicle Identification Number on Ford’s website. In the case of a used Mustang you are interested in, make sure that all the fixes recommended as part of the recalls have been made.
