Eric Zemmour’s far-right party hopes to reach 5% in the European elections and obtain seats in Parliament. But the campaign is struggling to get off the ground against the National Rally list.

“Thank you for welcoming Madame Marion Maréchal!” That evening in the suburbs of Lyon, the head of the Reconquest party list in the European elections was the star of the meeting. Eric Zemmour’s far-right party is playing for its political survival in this European election. After an honorable score in the presidential election, then disappointing legislative elections, Reconquête dreams of sending elected officials to Strasbourg. But for the moment the campaign is slipping, and the list is not guaranteed to reach the 5% threshold to obtain a few seats. For her part, Claudine thinks again: “It will be between Jordan Bardella and Marion Maréchal. As far as immigration issues are concerned, they are indeed in the same ideology in quotes, but at the economic level, they have quite big differences.”

Future alliances with the RN?

The Reconquest party is more liberal, the National Rally is more statist. This sympathizer would ultimately have preferred that these two camps agree to only propose one list to the Europeans. Adrien agrees, he recently left Marine Le Pen’s party for that of his niece: “Some will perhaps continue to vote RN for these elections, but they are for an alliance with the Reconquest party. It will not be for the Europeans, but perhaps tomorrow in the future.”

An alliance is not happening right away, one of the party executives points out: “It is a failure to understand French and European political historyexplains Guillaume Peltier.
