For the derby against the DFCO, the supporters of the AJA banned in the city center of Dijon

The long awaited “Derby” of Burgundy between the DFCO and the AJ Auxerre, it is Monday November 22, 2021, at the Stade Gaston Gérard, on behalf of the 16th day of Ligue 2. A match unleashes passions … and which pushes the Prefecture of Côte-d’Or to take certain precautions. In a decree published on November 19, the Prefect “prohibits any person availing himself of the quality of supporter of the Association of Youth Auxerroise (AJA) or behaving as such, to access the city center of Dijon in the perimeter delimited in annex” (see below). A ban that extends from 2 p.m. to midnight this Monday.

AJA supporters escorted to stadium

In this decree, we also learn that Auxerre supporters will be very supervised : “The supporters of the Auxerroise Youth Association (AJA) will be supervised by the security forces as soon as they arrive at the exit of the A38 motorway in Plombières les-Dijon. A meeting point for buses used by the supporters and the internal security forces will be established on this toll. They will be escorted from this place to the visitor parking lot of the Gaston Gérard stadium. The same will apply at the end of the match for the departure of the supporters “.

Another measure, are prohibited in the city center and “in and around the Gaston Gérard stadium, the possession, transport and use of any pyrotechnic device, firecracker and smoke and any object that can act as a projectile”.

Why this decision?

The Prefecture justifies this decision by many reasons :

  • “This sporting meeting will generate a significant flow of spectators with at least 10,000 people expected, this is a historic Burgundy derby”.
  • “These two teams have not met for 6 years, so this match is synonymous with reunion for the supporters.”
  • “There is a dispute between the ultras supporters of the two teams; that these ultras have planned a displacement in numbers: between 200 and 250 to which will be added about 200 independent supporters”.
  • “During previous meetings, public order disturbances were noted, and in particular episodes of violence between ultra supporters of Lingon’s Boys and Ultra Auxerre (on October 26, 2012, the police had to use collective means defense to restore order during clashes between supporters, on September 27, 2013, Auxerre supporters stolen from the premises of a group of Dijon supporters) “.
  • “There is evidence of a real desire to do battle between some supporters with calls on social networks; that demonstrations of force mixed with insults have already started on these social networks”.
