The French Communist Party (PCF) does not despair, despite the bad polls. Léon Deffontaines, guest on Friday May 10 on France Inter, believes that he is “still possible” that the list he leads makes more than 5% in the European elections, the threshold for having elected representatives. In the latest Ipsos poll for Radio France and Le Parisien, carried out in April, this list totaled 3% of voting intentions.
According to Léon Deffontaines, there is “for the moment, the French are disenchanted with this campaign”but “It’s starting to wake up.” “Above all, my objective is that the four lists on the left exceed 5% to elect five more deputies for the left, five fewer deputies for the right and the extreme right”he adds.
“We are literally having this campaign confiscated”
The head of the PCF list in the European elections has “the impression, for several weeks, that we are literally having this campaign confiscated”. The period was marked by pro-Palestinian mobilization in higher education, encouraged by La France insoumise and denounced, in particular, by the presidential majority. According to him, “everything is good to avoid talking about the real issues that are being asked of us, namely the question of rising electricity bills, for example.” “For too long, the left has been divided over social debates and has obscured the social question, I want to make it a priority again”he says.
