The communist candidate for the European elections, guest of France 2 Tuesday evening, estimated that the French did not want the free trade agreement with Canada.
On the occasion of the European elections, the communists want to lead a campaign resolutely hostile to the institutions and achievements carried out in the community area. During his appearance on France 2, Tuesday March 19, Léon Deffontaines declared that “European construction” was “a democratic fraud in the way it is done”.
The head of the communist list for the ballot listed his grievances against the European Union (EU), notably the European Constitutional Treaty rejected by France in 2005 and Ceta, the free trade agreement with the Canada, debated this week in the Senate. “The French don’t want it”swept away Léon Deffontaines, leader of the communists, aged 28. “We are a political force that challenges all free trade agreements.”
While cattle exports from Canada are currently very marginal, Léon Deffontaines fears an adaptation of Canadian farms to European standards, with exports rising very sharply in the years to come. “There is a catastrophe that is happening”he insists.
