“He kind of created the idea of ​​a superstar in music, and he was the first to experience what other artists are experiencing today,” continues the leader of this Italian rock formation which will climb this Wednesday, May 25 the steps of the Cannes Film Festival for this biopic. For Victoria De Angelis, the bassist of the group ManeskinElvis “was one of the first to break the norm, with a strong message, ‘stand up for what you are'”.

The interpreter of Don’t Be Cruel also “mixed different cultures in his music, he started from the black music he loved (rhythm’n’blues, gospel), he changed things, he brought black music to a white audience when everything was separated at the time, it was an anti-racist act,” develops Damiano David.

In the biopic directed by Baz Luhrmann (red Mill), which will be screened on Wednesday out of competition, Elvis is played by rising American star Austin Butler, while Tom Hanks plays his manager, Colonel Parker.

For rock biographers, he is one of the first all-powerful managers, of the old school, leaving little room for decision to his foal. “Elvis didn’t know what to do, he was in his twenties when he broke through, we know more today, he couldn’t ask others for advice at the time”, concludes Damiano David.
