For its 34th edition, the “Périgord pourpre” festival celebrates the living arts in all their forms

In the enclosure steeped in history of the castle of Biron (Dordogne), many spectators come to settle in front of the stage. Overhung by a chandelier made of glass bottles, the hip-hop troupe Wanted Posse takes the audience on a journey through the dances. Burlesque, Charleston and breakdance, an intergenerational show that departs from the usually classic programming of the Périgord Pourpre festival. “It’s like when you go to the market and you have your favorite producers. You don’t know the novelty he offers you but usually it’s always good. It’s not me who says it, it’s the public”, laughs Marc Chisson, artistic director of the festival.

Purple Périgord, since its creation in 1988, has always sought to open up to all artistic genres while keeping a place for classical music. This edition is no exception to the rule by offering flamenco dance this year with Patricia Guerrero. The multi-award-winning artist will deliver a committed performance that will question the public on the place of women in contemporary society. Jazz lovers will not be left out, however, they will be able to vibrate to the sound of Florin Niculescu’s gipsy violin accompanied by guitarist Chistian Escoudé, honorary prize of the Victoires du jazz 2022.

For fans of the early hours, classical concerts will be there. Denys Dragan young Ukrainian pianist will offer a recital at the picturesque castle of Marsalès. For its part, theEsperus Academy closed the festivities with a concert in Monpazier, bringing together for the occasion his prodigies from all over the world.
