Questioned for the first time since the start of his second term, the Head of State addressed the issues of purchasing power and pension reform. He also announced the creation of a refoundation council.
This is the first major interview since his re-election. Emmanuel Macron had promised that this second five-year term would not be the continuity of the first. He had spoken of a new method and, on Friday June 3, he announced the creation of a new body. “I want to bring together a National Council for Refoundation with the political, economic, social, associative forces of the elected representatives of the territories and citizens drawn by lot”, explained the President of the Republic. This council will be put in place just after the legislative elections. Purchasing power is one of the major concerns of the French. Emmanuel Macron specifies the contours of the food voucher: “This food voucher must be simple. The idea is rather that it be paid in one go. Then it will be necessary to move towards more targeted devices, such as on gasoline with a device for heavy riders, starting this fall”.
Finally, he addressed the subject of a long-awaited reform that is highly contested: “As for the work on the pension reform which is essential to the financing of our transformations, it will begin after this National Council for Refoundation and the reform will come into force in the summer of 2023”. This first political interview with the Head of State since April 24 comes a week before the legislative elections.
