Gérard Raymond, president of France Asso Santé says “shocked”, Wednesday January 17 on franceinfo, by Emmanuel Macron’s announcement Tuesday to the press to double the medical franchise to one euro. “Frankly, it doesn’t shock me,” for his part declaredhe President of the Republic.

According to Gérard Raymond, “this is not how we are going to empower patients and people who need care”. The president of France Asso Santé speaks about “double punishment: being sick and paying twice as much” and even describes this measure as “knife stroke” : “It’s not making people who need care to be able to live responsible, it’s making them feel guilty”.

“Empowering” patients and prescribers

“If we want to make them responsible, we have to support them, make them understand”assures Gérard Raymond who adds: “People who take medication take these medications because they have been prescribed. Prescribers should perhaps also be held accountable”.

The president of France Asso Santé therefore wants health stakeholders to come together to talk about solutions to the Social Security deficit. He assures: “We will continue to weigh in with the Ministry of Health to seek solutions.”.

On Tuesday, Emmanuel Macron announced that doubling the medical franchise was a “good measure”. This remaining charge for patients is currently 50 cents per box of medication or for a consultation. It is capped at 50 euros per year.
