Caroline Roose, Greens/EFA MEP, speaks in 12/13 info, Friday September 29. She justifies her choice of not going to the Nice Climate Summit, an event sponsored by TotalEnergies.
Caroline Roose, Greens/EFA MEP, has canceled her visit to the Nice Climate Summit. It is the only politician to have boycotted the summit, just like two experts from the IPCC, and around twenty activists. “This climate summit is important. There were round tables which were important. (…) But what is the consistency in the fact that today, this climate summit is partly sponsored by Total?”, she asks in 12/13 info, Friday September 29. The MP recalls that TotalEnergies is located “in the top 20 most polluting companies in the world”.
A “communications operation”?
Isn’t it important, however, that the company addresses the major issues linked to global warming? “We can approach them with them, but when I see the percentage – 73% of TotalEnergies investments in hydrocarbons – they make a very small part of investments in alternatives. For me, it’s just an operation of communication”she judges.
