From September 3 to 10, the Emmaus of Indre-et-Loire are organizing a big sale on their prices for students: minus 50 percent on presentation of student card and an identity document. This is the second year that the association has offered such an event to attract young people, often subject to precariousness.
All good deals are good to take” – Clara, student in Tours
Among the clients of the day is Héloïse, a student at an engineering school in Paris, who started coming during the pandemic when she saw “prices increase”. At Emmaüs, for example, she hopes to find dishes for her apartment. “In Paris the rent is very expensive, so as soon as I come back here I often come to Emmaüs to hunt.”
Same for Axel, a 19-year-old electronics student, who is looking for a new bike. “They are old but only cost 30 euros!” he rejoices. At his side, Clara, a student in life sciences, accompanies him for the first time. “It’s true that all good deals are good to take.” Complicated month-ends and price increases, “It twists my stomach sometimes. This year, even if I have a good scholarship, I am looking for a part-time job in addition to my studies.”
A still too outdated image of Emmaus
For Amaury Tincq the co-manager, too few young people think of coming to hunt at Emmaus. “They still imagine that there is only furniture from grandparents! Whereas we can find recent furniture, which comes from But or IKEA. And above all, we can help them make ends meet. month.” Hence the idea of this operation to attract students.
The event takes place in all Emmaüs sites in Indre-et-Loire: Amboise, Chinon, Auzouer-en-Touraine, Joué-lès-Tours, Saint-Pierre-des-Corps and Evres-sur-Indre. The one in Tours Nord is closed for renovations.
