For a solidarity tax with Ukraine

For almost two years, the horror of the war in Ukraine has struck us daily, all from the comfort of our homes. Many of us painfully feel our individual helplessness and even that of the communities to which we belong, despite all the support offered to date to Ukrainians and their government. Obviously, this support is fragile and everything must be done to strengthen and extend it.

The war in Ukraine hurts our humanity. Its consequences on international stability and our individual and collective well-being are enormous and long-lasting. International cooperation is profoundly disrupted. No field is exempt: the arts, sports, sciences, finance, commerce, tourism.

The continuation of the war in Ukraine requires Western countries to remobilize and step up their aid. Moreover, they must think now about the reconstruction of Ukraine, which will require an unprecedented effort. Until Russia is forced, after its withdrawal, to pay compensation to the Ukrainian people, would it not be in the order of things to put in place a voluntary and universal solidarity tax with the Ukrainians? that is to say in the order of those who wish to re-establish a semblance of humanity and who believe that cooperation is always the best option?
