Marie-Denise Pelletier, Joe Bocan and Marie Carmen were received to standing ovations and thunderous applause on Sunday afternoon, on the occasion of their big comeback on the stage of the Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts, 2 years and dust after the official premiere of their tour “For a one-night stand”.

The series of shows which candidly launched on March 10, 2020, a few hours before the world stops, brings together on the same stage these queens of Quebec “spray net” pop – a brilliant idea by producer Martin Leclerc who will have made it possible to get their hands on a silver ticket on Sunday, i.e. more than 25,000 tickets sold. A feat achieved in the midst of a pandemic, let us remember.
The three women stoically appeared on the scene hand in hand. Together, they kicked off the show with a seven-song potpourri including “L’âme mate”, “Je t’aime mal” and “Dans la peau”. They shared the verses, while the unique color of their voices blended beautifully with each other.
If the audience was shy at the start of the show, it was quite loud and talkative towards the trio, not afraid to get up to applaud the talent of the experienced singers, who were invigorating Sunday afternoon.
The women then took turns splitting the stage, playing their respective anthems. Marie-Denise Pelletier opened the ball with “Inventer la terre”, a song that won her the Grand Prix de la chanson francophone in 1993 while representing Montreal in Paris. She also sang the mega hits “Tous les cris, les SOS”, which earned her an ovation – and a few tears – and “Pour une histoire d’un soir” – “hits” that will never go out of fashion.
Marie Carmen of course sang her version of “The Black Eagle” after which she too received an ovation, “Faut pas que j’panique”, “J’ai l’blues de vous” and “Le rêve de Stella Spotlight “, a song that Marie-Denise Pelletier popularized when she personified this “fallen star” in “Starmania”. The latter also offered the song “Little earth music”, which at the time concluded the rock opera by Luc Plamondon and Michel Berger.
Marie Carmen was also very moved during the interpretation of “Between the shadow and the light”, her “beautiful grand daughter of 30 years”. She also invited the public to sing very loudly with “to do good to the world”.
Joe Bocan, for her part, did “Finish it there” – the “A-side” version of this 45 rpm -, “Down it”, after having aborted for the first time her great success “Starting from zero” which she kept for the last act of the show and for which she put on her puffy dress. She also performed “Appocalypso” and “Les femmes voilées”, a song she wrote in her twenties to denounce violence against women. She also joked about the slightly bohemian perception that the public had of her: “the mother who raised her children in the trees” and which would have made her the only singer not to have her song signed Plamondon.
The show “Pour une histoire d’un soir” is a “love date” which comes at the right time and which does good to a large audience. “Finally!”, even exclaimed Marie-Denise Pelletier who, like her acolytes, could not hide her excitement and her excitement to be back on the boards after a pandemic break.
The “Pour une histoire d’un soir” tour continues until at least 2023. All dates are at productionsmartinleclerc.com.
