Ulrich Bounat, geopolitical analyst and specialist in Eastern Central Europe, guest of 19/20 info, gave his insight on Emmanuel Macron’s declaration concerning the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine.
Is Emmanuel Macron really considering sending French soldiers to the Ukrainian front? For Ulrich Bounat, geopolitical analyst and specialist in Eastern Central Europe, “it is not tomorrow that we will send a French, German or other regiment to Ukraine. (…) This sentence aims to show the determination of the Europeans. (…) Second point, it is a message addressed to the Ukrainians to tell them that we will be there. Third point, to respond to certain criticisms made of France in relation to its aid to Ukraine.”
The collapse of Ukraine, “a possibility”
While other European capitals have distanced themselves from the head of state’s declaration, some experts also believe that he was right to be so offensive. “If the worst happened with the collapse of Ukraine, what would we do? Asking the question is not answering it. (…) It is important that countries and general staffs think about this possibility in the medium term”, believes Ulrich Bounat.
