The Montreal Alouettes continued their recent wave of signings by announcing new agreements with Montrealers Hergy Mayala and Frédéric Chagnon on Tuesday.
Mayala spent her first two CFL seasons with the Calgary Stampeders, after being their first-round pick (8th overall) in the 2019 auction.
The 26-year-old receiver caught 67 passes for 846 yards and five touchdowns in 29 games.
He agreed with the Alouettes for a one-year contract.
At the same time, the Montreal team signed agreements with American defensive backs Mike Jones and Tyrice Beverette, in addition to American defensive lineman Avery Ellis.
“We have just added young players who will bring a lot of energy to our team, including another player who will have the opportunity to play in front of his team in Hergy Mayala,” said Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia. I am very happy with these additions. Our work continues, but I like the direction we are taking. »
Later on Tuesday, the team confirmed the return of Chagnon, who signed a contract with the team in 2020 and took part in the club’s training camp the following year.
The linebacker will therefore have a new chance to carve out a place with the Montreal team, with whom he has never played a game.
Chagnon spent the 2021 season with the Ottawa Redblacks. He scored his first career touchdown when he blocked a punt, before returning it to the Toronto Argonauts’ end zone.
The former University of Montreal Carabins spent the first three seasons of his career with the BC Lions. He was drafted in the third round (24th overall) by the Lions in 2017.
His pact with the Alouettes is for one season.
American defensive lineman Michael Wakefield will also be back with the Alouettes. He has played 12 games with the team in 2021, having spent three seasons with the Rouge et Noir.
