In Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), in the fan zone, the matches broadcast live are also commented on in sign language.
A retransmission of the match between France and Brazil, at the Olympic village in Nantes, in Loire-Atlantique, looks very much like that of a classic fan zone. However, the difference is major: in a corner of the big screen, the match is commented in sign language by deaf people. A unique experience for the forty deaf and hard of hearing spectators.
“Usually, when we look at subtitles, it comes from hearing people. These are expressions and words that have a certain meaning for hearing people, so we don’t necessarily get everything.”comments one of them. “There, we are really in symbiosis with the match, in symbiosis with the commentaries and it’s great”continues another, all smiles.
