There were fears that Saturday’s 30-26 win over the Calgary Stampeders might have been costly for the Montreal Alouettes. Those fears were confirmed Tuesday, as the Montreal team placed kicker David Côté and linebacker Frédéric Chagnon on the six-game injured list.
Côté was injured during the pre-game warm-up. More will be known at Tuesday afternoon’s practice at Hébert Stadium, but it’s clearly a serious problem. Jose Maltos, who was perfect on three field goal attempts in the win, should be called upon to replace him.
The Alouettes also added Canadian kicker Michael Domagala to their roster on Tuesday. In three seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Saskatchewan Roughriders, Domagala, 28, has made 27 of his 35 field goal attempts for a success rate of 77.1%.
The team also announced the signing of Canadian defensive lineman Anthony Federico earlier in the day.
Chagnon was injured on a kick return in the fourth quarter. He left the game, but returned to the field after the match to meet with the club’s fans.
For now, the name of safety Marc-Antoine Dequoy, who left the game in the second quarter, has not been added to the injured list. Dequoy did not participate in Tuesday’s practice, however.
The same goes for long-pass specialist Louis-Philippe Bourassa, who was also removed from the training during the warm-up on Saturday.
The Alouettes (5-0) will hold only one practice this week, while they will have had only five days between their game against Calgary and the one scheduled for Thursday, at Percival-Molson Stadium, against the Toronto Argonauts (2-2). The club will then have its first week off of the season.
