One last turn and off we go. Final match of the season for US Concarneau. They face the Red stars this Friday, May 13. No matter the outcome of the game, the Breton football club will finish 4th in the National. For part of the season, he considered performing at the top of the table and therefore moving up to Ligue 2. But finally the breath fell.
President Jacques Piriou evokes a mixed season “We are mixed”. Mixed, between the disappointment of this chocolate medal: the Tuna boats finished at the foot of the podium. But the president is satisfied with the work done “by the coach, the staff and the players. They showed that we could count on Concarneau in terms of football.”
The priority: extend the trainer
And he does not forget the exceptional first part of the season achieved by his players: Concarneau finished autumn champion. To go the distance next year, the president has a priority: keep coach Stéphane Le Mignan in its ranks “My priority today is to re-sign the coach quickly enough to be able to develop a plan of attack for next season.“
For the moment nothing has been decided, “it’s not a financial question but around the club’s project”specifies Jacques Piriou.
A budget that should increase and a stated ambition
The budget should swell next season, because the performances of Concarneau have been publicized and could interest new sponsors. “The passages on Canal Plus have been quite numerous this year for example. It has highlighted the club and therefore our sponsors. All this will allow us to better promote the club and therefore increase the budget”, confirms Jacques Piriou.
Thank you to the supporters, it really warms the heart
The president obviously has a word for the supporters: “I would like to thank them for their support this season. We were in the first three attendances of this championship; there were more than 2,000 people on average at each match. Against Laval we went up to 4,500 people. All that warms the heart, we see that we are pushed by our public. The players really appreciate that too.”
And he is already showing ambition for next year: “Do better than this year, always do better!”. The appointment is made.
