“Foody Savior”: food at a third of the price to avoid waste

A new application is making its debut in Montreal to limit food waste and it could soon be extended elsewhere in Quebec.

Foody Savior connects grocery stores with potential customers in order to avoid throwing food in the garbage and, thereby, to offer discounted items to consumers.

You just have to download the app on your smartphone to start saving money.

“We have set up geolocation. Once you open the app, you will see merchants around you appear who offer their surpluses at a discount, at a third of the price, in the form of a surprise basket, ”explained that the president and co-founder of Foody Savior, Mohand Rabhi , Monday, on the program “À vos affaires” on the LCN channel.

Grocery stores, restaurants and other specialized businesses such as bakeries already display their offers on the application.

“If it’s a bakery, we know we will have pastries or bread. If it’s a fruit store, fruits and vegetables. “

Whether featured foods are fresh even if they are offered at a third of the price, Mr. Rabhi assures us that quality is not an issue.

“The traders sell daily products. Usually, it’s because they haven’t had time to sell them. We put this product on the application and they are perfectly edible. They do not have the right to put products on which the date has passed. “

One of Rabhi’s motivations for launching such a service is that he himself is the son of a restaurateur and he knows how wastefuls stomach pains for tenants, who lose money in this way.

“Unfortunately, traders don’t often have solutions to counter this. They work with associations, but they cannot travel every day. ”

Rabhi hopes Foody Savior will snowball quickly. He plans to expand the service across the country.
