Guest of 12/13 info, Friday February 2, Frédéric Denhez, journalist, writer and ecologist, discusses the announcements made the day before by the government to respond to the farmers’ movement, including the inclusion in the law of food sovereignty.

Among the measures announced by the government on Thursday, February 1, in response to the anger of farmers, there is notably the inclusion in the law of food sovereignty. Frédéric Denhez, journalist, writer and ecologist, indicates in Friday’s 12/13 news that this sovereignty “is already in the law”. He specifies that it is included in article L.1 paragraph 1 of the Rural Code. “And then it can’t be decreed. It’s food sovereignty for what products, on what geographical scale, what do we need? In fact, that doesn’t mean anything”he adds.

Large distribution, a “feudalism”

The Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, announced a strengthening of controls in mass distribution, aiming in particular to enforce the Egalim law, but also to verify products claiming French origin. “If he is doing it now, it is because he has not done it before, and Mr. Le Maire was Minister of Agriculture at one time”recalls Frédéric Denhez.

“In any case, the balance of power is in the hands of this feudalism that is mass distribution”, continues the journalist. Considering that “the State acts as if nothing exists”he recalls that “the Egalim law has existed for ten years”. “The ban on signing contracts on a European scale for products sold in France by purchasing centers located in Brussels, for example for Leclerc, has been prohibited since version 3 of the Egalim law”he continues.
