Friday, April 7, Bercy calls on brands and manufacturers to get back around the table with regard to food product negotiations in order to reduce consumer bills.

In March, inflation reached +15.8% over one year. Result, this year the bill for the Easter meal turns out to be higher than expected. It increased. Before, with 50 euros, I had shopping for the weekend”comments one consumer. Another comes out of the supermarket with a half-filled shopping bag for 43 euros. However, in recent weeks, some commodity prices have been falling, such as wheat.

A price revision possible in several weeks

The government then appeals to manufacturers and invites them to renegotiate prices “at the first signs of falling inflation”. Clearly, Bercy asks to pass on the price cuts as quickly as possible. The sector takes note of the request but warns that a revision of the tariffs can only be done in several weeks. According to the Banque de France, a drop in food prices remains unlikely before 2025.
